ARTIFACT: Rare, early WWII 'Bundles for America' Founding Member badge in sterling silver. The British War Relief Service and Natalie Wales Latham had established a humanitarian relief program, non-military that provided aid for British soldiers. After Pearl Harbor and America's entry into the war an independent Bundles for America was established in 1941 and founder of Bundles for Britain, Nancy Latham became president of the new organization. Within weeks, the Bundles for America program was well underway with knitted socks, sweaters, scarves, etc. as well as, helmets and gloves which were provided to American soldiers at the direct request of the War Planning Board. The program continued on to sponsor scrap metal and clothing drives. The pin is in the shape of a five point star bearing a US Shield at its center with an eagle perched atop and reads: "BUNDLES FOR AMERICA". A delicate chain link connects a nicely enameled red, white, and blue pinback. The reverse of the star reads: "COMMEMORATIVE FOUNDING OF BUNDLES FOR AMERICA NOV. 19, 1941" and below a maker's mark reads: "ACCESSOCRAFT PRODUCTS CO. STERLING SILVER".
