Description
This is an early World War II United States Army Air Forces 94th Fighter Squadron DI (Distinctive Insignia) (actually more of a Squadron Badge) as worn by the pilots of the unit presented by World War I ACE fighter Eddie Rickenbacker. The pin has an oval frame and at center is an Uncle Sam-type top hat.: Massaro's USAAF DI Book mentions this badge as existing with a drop in catch, but it also exists with a come-under catch as seen here.
VINTAGE:Circa early World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 1/2" in width and 1-1/16" in height.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Sterling silver.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal pin with come-under locking catch.
MARKINGS:STERLING.
