ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa 1955 stewardess hat badge 3rd Issue, Type 3 for Bonanza Airlines (BAL). Bonanza was started in 1945 by a trio including an ex-USN Lieutenant Commander, and flew until 1968, when it merged with other companies to form Air West. BAL flew largely within the southwestern United States, advertising their routes as following those of the "gold strikes". The badge is shaped like a capital "B" and shows on white enameled circle over a black airplane within a white circle.

VINTAGE: Circa 1955.

SIZE: Approximately 13/16" in height and 1-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt sterling silver, enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: STERLING, "L" maker mark.
