Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a Rare, ca 1918 Royal Air Force Officer's Visor Cap. Overall it is in superb condition, with some minor flaws that we will note below.

The Hat is named to BRODIE, R and dated 3/11/18, just before the end of hostilities. We do not know anything about this RAF officer (and possibly RFC officer!) but it might make for a fun research project.

The Hat has a great, Jaunty look, and is very structurally sound for display. Aside form minor moth nips here and there, and some heavy but aesthetically pleasing crazing on the visor and chinstrap, the only real damage on the hat is a tear through the sweat liner at the left (as worn) temple.

A short-lived piece of early Aviation Headgear, this would be a prized addition to any WWI Aviation Collection.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1918.

SIZE:

Approximately 21-1/2" inch (measured inside of the hat)

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

The hat is wool, the chinstrap and visor are leather, and the chinstrap buttons are covered in silk. The sweatband inside the hat is leather and the liner is silk.

ATTACHMENT:

Chin strap.
