Pre-WWII USS Stingray SS-186 Celluloid Launch Button / Badge

This is a pre-World War II submarine celluloid launch button/badge for the USS Stingray SS-18The second Stingray (SS-186) was laid down at the Portsmouth (NH) Navy Yard on October 1, 1936, and launched five days later. Sponsoring the ship was Mrs. Ridley McLean, the widow of Rear Admiral McLean, who had had a distinguished career in the submarine service. Stingray carried out two special missions in the Philippine Islands during her fourteenth and fifteenth war patrols; and, on January 11, 1945, she put to sea on her sixteenth and final war patrol. She was decommissioned at the Philadelphia Navy Yard shortly after the close of World War II. Stingray (SS-186) received twelve battle stars for World War II service.
