Description
This is a one-of-a-kind German bronze honor plaque from the "Hall of Heroes" that once existed in the Naval Academy at Kiel. This plaque was made to commemorate Kapitan-Leutnant Walter Schwieger, commander of U-20 (and later U-88), who is best remembered for sinking the RMS Lusitania on May 7, 191The plaque is framed in a beautiful reddish wood and has a dark topaz velvet background showing off the plaque.
VINTAGE:Circa early 1920s.
SIZE:Approximately 10-15/16" square and 7/8" in thickness.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wood, bronze, velvet, coated paperboard backing, wire, metal hangers.
ATTACHMENT:Wire with two eye-screws.
MARKINGS:96000 on front.

CONDITION:8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The plaque has light wear on its front with a handsome tarnish on the plaque itself and spots of moderate wear on reverse only.
