ARTIFACT: This is a handsome Model 1842 or 1856 United Kingdom Cavalry service pistol. One reference lists this as a Model 1842, probably produced circa 1850, and another lists this as Model 1856. If this gun is the earlier model (1846), it could easily have seen use during the Crimean War. It is clearly stamped with the British Military proofmark and the number 25. In addition to the proofmark, the gun bears a maker mark for T. Blissett of Liverpool. The gun is a 577 gauge, .60 caliber, single shot percussion pistol with brass furniture with steel barrel, lock, and lanyard ring, and is in a nice reddish walnut wood. The gun has a 10" rifled barrel (16" overall).

VINTAGE: Circa 1850-late 1850s.

SIZE: 10" rifled barrel, 16" overall. Approximately 15-1/2" in length and 7-1/2" in height; barrel: 10"; lockplate: 4-9/16"; tang: 1-5/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass furniture with steel barrel, lock and lanyard ring, walnut wood.

ATTACHMENT: Lanyard ring at base of handle (buttplate).

MARKINGS: Crown logo (English military proofmark), 25; crown logo, T. BLISSETT LIVERPOOL.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Great Britain collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VCAFX11 LAAEJX4/12 SIEJX5/13

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The pistol is in great shape with some minor tarnishing and small areas of light to medium wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
