ARTIFACT:
This is a circa mid-late 1960s jacket patch for the United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Magnolia (WLB-328). Affectionately known as "Maggie", the ship was originally commissioned on October 19, 1947, as the USCGC Magnolia (WAGL-328), then redesignated as WLB-328 in 1965. WLB is the designation for buoy tender. The oval patch shows a large fist easily grasping a massive buoy.
VINTAGE:
Circa mid-late 1960s.
SIZE:
Approximately 5-5/8" in height and 2-15/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wool felt embroidered in cotton/polyester threads, mesh backing.
