ARTIFACT: This is a grouping of artifacts originally belonging to Major Alvin L. Smith, United States Army Air Force: the Order of the Sacred Tripod VI Class Officer Badge, Document, and USAAF & Chinese Air Force Wings. 

The Order of the Sacred Tripod (寶鼎勳章), also referred to as the Order of the Precious Tripod or Pao Ting, is a military award of the Republic of China. It was created on 15 May 1929 for significant contributions to national security. The order is organized into nine grades.

On the document, on the First line written the number of the medal #407(四0七), Actually Smith received medal #404 by some reason, probably person who handled the Document or the Medal didn't make sure Chinese character matching to the medal number. Image #6 has a reverse picture of the medal, and shows "404" that is exactly the one Smith received. 

On the document, on the Second line is written Major Alvin Smith's Name: 少校訓練主任Major 史密斯 (Smith) Fifth line has "The Order of the Sacred Tripod (寶鼎勳章)". Last 2 lines 国民政府主席(President of the Chinese National Government) 蔣中正(Chiang Kai-shek) 中華民国三十七年一月十四日(Chinese National Government Year 37th January 14th).

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Approximately Order of the Sacred Tripod: 2-7/16" in width x 2-7/16" in height / Ribbon bar: 3/8" in height x 1-3/8" in width / Ribbon: 1-15/16" in height x 1-3/8" in width / Chinese Wing:2-1/2" in width x 5/8" in height / US Wing: 3" in width x 1-3/16" in height / Document:15-1/2" in width x 12" in height / Photos: Approximately10" in width x 8" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Sterling silver, Gold gilt, enamel, plastic, ribbon, paper, ink,

ATTACHMENT: Wings: Two posts with clutch-backs. Chinese Medal: Safety Pin.
