Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa late World War II French Navy ship badge for the destroyer (contre-torpilleur) Le Malin. The Malin (The Malignant) was launched August 17, 1933 and decommissioned in February 196During an evacuation of Allied troops at Dunkirk in 1940, Malin was hit by a mine but survived: her companion ship, Le Bourrasque, the was not so lucky, succumbing to a German sub. The badge shows a monkey perched upon at anchor at its center. It has an A. Augis of Lyon maker mark.

VINTAGE:

Circa late World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-1/4" in height x 7/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Painted aluminum.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical safety-style pin with saddle.

MARKINGS:

A. AUGIS LYON and maker mark.
