ARTIFACT: This is a circa late 1950s cigarette lighter for the Matson Lines S.S. Lurline. Established in 1926 with the purchase of Oceanic Steamship Company, Matson ran routes all over the Pacific. The Lurline first sailed for the steamship company in 1933, and was host to Amelia Earhart and her Lockheed Vega the following year. The lighter has an enameled swallowtail Matson pennant medallion on its front and was made in Japan.

VINTAGE: Circa late 1950s.

SIZE: Approximately 2" height and 1-3/16" in width and 3/8" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Chrome-plated, enameled and painted areas, steel insert.

ATTACHMENT: Hinge.

MARKINGS: JAPAN on bottom.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The lighter shows only light wear.
