ARTIFACT: This is a United States Army 2nd Armored Division compact from the German Occupation period. Instrumental in containing the German forces in the last months of the war and the first American unit to enter Berlin, the 3rd remained in Germany for a short time after the war. The large compact is enameled on the cover and shows a small 3rd Armored insignia and a raised brass map of Germany's Allied occupation zones. The inside has a mirror and a pad that sits on a mesh liner.

VINTAGE: Circa late 1940s.

SIZE: Approximately 3-15/16" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt brass, enamel, glass, silk/cotton pad, mesh.

ATTACHMENT: Hinge, release clip.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an old ocean liner china collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. ZAEL94 LABJX3/14 SAJJX3/14

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The compact has some light abrasions to the cover with some small spots on the mirror and slight discoloration from usage to the pad.
