ARTIFACT: Fabulous Korean War, circa 1951 United States Air Force 5th Mule Train (Motor Transport Squadron) Reversible tour jacket with large Japanese-made patch. The satin and wool jacket is navy blue with golden yellow embellishments, the reverse reads: "5TH MULE TRAIN" and just below features a large, fully embroidered squadron patch that depicts the insignia, a bucking mule and above it reads: "5th AF" with a small white star on either side. Surrounding the center image reads: "5TH MOTOR TRANSPORT SQUADRON" along the top, the bottom reads: "5TH MULE TRAIN-KOREA" all details are beautifully embroidered. There is a tag stitched inside one of the hand pockets that reads: "VULCAN TOKYO JAPAN L MADE IN JAPAN". The 5th Motor Transport Squadron was stationed at Kunsan Air Base where the squadron transported/hauled munitions, weapons, fuel, and a myriad of supplies from the Kunsan Harbor to the Air Base.
