Description
This is a Korean War era shoulder patch for the United States Army 24th Infantry Division which belonged to Silver Star recipient Captain Charles Sumner Bird III, also of the 10th Mountain Division (during World War II). A Boston native and Harvard graduate, Bird served in both World War II and the Korean War with distinction. This patch came to us directly from its original owner. The patch is Japanese-made, and is a "hot pink" variant. It shows a taro leaf at center, foliage indigenous to Hawaii (the 24th was formed when the Hawaiian Division disbanded). We have a 10th Mountain Division patch of Captain Bird's available for sale separately Ð please see link at the bottom of this page for more information.
