ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful, hand-engraved first issue (circa 1869 or 1870) fireman's badge from the Westerly, Rhode Island Fire Engine Co. Steamer 1, the precursor to the Westerly Steam Fire Engine Co. No. 1 established in 1871. The badge has a large ornate number one flanked by decorative flourishes at its center, and the company's nickname ("Steamer") is at the top. The original wearer's initials are inscribed on the front at the bottom.

VINTAGE: Circa 1869-1870.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silver.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin (pin broken).

MARKINGS: C.B.L. on front..

ITEM NOTES: This is from a fire and rescue collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX13 LEEJX7/13 SBIBX2/15

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): The badge has light wear with moderate tarnish and the pin is broken.
