Description
This is a beautiful, hand-engraved first issue (circa 1869 or 1870) fireman's badge from the Westerly, Rhode Island Fire Engine Co. Steamer 1, the precursor to the Westerly Steam Fire Engine Co. No. 1 established in 187The badge has a large ornate number one flanked by decorative flourishes at its center, and the company's nickname ("Steamer") is at the top. The original wearer's initials are inscribed on the front at the bottom.
VINTAGE:Circa 1869-1870.
SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Silver.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical safety-style pin (pin broken).
