ARTIFACT:

This is a circa World War II United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) enlisted "badge". The WAVES were the first women to serve in the Army as a division of the US Navy. This was worn to proudly show the young woman's commitment to service. The badge still has its original period safety pin.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 4-1/16" square.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Printed paper card, string.

ATTACHMENT:

Original period safety pin, hole, string.
