Description
This is a great, small-sized circa 1900 United States Post Office (USPO) Department letter scale by Fairbanks Scales of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The scale is a Model HHA1C 4 pound scale made in cast iron, brass and galvanized steel. It still has an old Post Office Department lead seal. Lifting the cylindrical weight allows it to slide to the correct weight value.
VINTAGE:Circa 1900.
SIZE:Approximately 7-1/2" in height, 17-1/2" in length and 7-1/2" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Cast iron, brass and galvanized steel, lead seal tag.
ATTACHMENT:Screws, counter-weight system.
MARKINGS:FAIRBANKS SCALES logo; FAIRBANKS on end of arm; FAIRBANKS PROPERTY OF U.S.P.O. DEPT. on base; P.O.D. 1 on lead seal; HHA1C (or G?) on bottom.
