Description
This is a Northwestern (American) coastal Indian souvenir potlatch paddle. A potlatch is be the indigenous Northwestern culture's equivalent of potluck, where neighbors all meet in celebration, each one bringing food. The paddle has a long handle roughly the diameter of a broomstick and a sword-like blade featuring the devil on one side and a deeply hewn totem design on the other.
VINTAGE:Circa 1900.
SIZE:21-11/16" length and 3-1/2" width and 5/8" diameter (of handle).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wood.

CONDITION:7+ (Very Fine+): Paddle has some light to moderate abrasions and a faint bit of pencil marking on devil side of paddle.
