The slide was designed by Waltham Watch Company craftsmen for wear by the scouts of the Sachem Council of Waltham, Massachusetts for the occasion. The Boy Scouts began congregating in Texas in 1910, and ever since 1937 the jamborees have been international events held roughly every four years with some exceptions.
