Description
This is a beautiful, French-made World War I United States Air Service pilot tunic: sadly, it is unnamed. It has a nice bullion wing, a 3rd Army patch, fire-bronze insignia and three overseas stripes. There are also two winged propeller collar insignia, two US insignia, two bars on the shoulder tabs and two ribbon bars beneath the wing. The jacket has one interior pocket.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:No size tag. Approximately 17-1/2" (armpit to armpit)," 24" from shoulder seam to end of cuff, 17" across back shoulder to shoulder and about 28-1/2" from base of collar to hem. 3rd Army patch is about 2-5/8" in diameter. Wing is about 15/16" by 3-13/16".
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wool with brass buttons, cotton lining, embroidery tape, twill collar with felt tab; wing: bullion embroidery on wool; insignia: fire bronze; ribbon bars: silk-wrapped cardboard, brass; single stripe: wool with embroidery tape; double stripe and 3rd Army patch: wool embroidered in silk cotton/threads; felt tab at collar.
ATTACHMENT:Buttons, three hook and eye closures and felt tab at collar, interior hook; buttons on pockets; buttons on shoulder tabs; tabs on bars; pins on insignia; sewn-on wing.

CONDITION:8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The jacket has only a few very small holes and a smudge of minor discoloration on the reverse; lining is in very good shape; some insignia have minor tarnishing.
