ARTIFACT: This is a fabulous circa 1900 firemen's muster celluloid badge advertising Portsburger Lager Beer by the Portsmouth Brewing Company of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Portsmouth Brewing Company, now an inn, went out of business with the start of Prohibition. The wonderfully colorized badge is attached to a complimentary mug-shaped shot glass by a red, white and blue ribbon.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900.

SIZE: Badge: approximately in diameter; glass: approximately 3-3/8" in height and 5-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin with paper backing, brass pin, silk ribbon, glass.

ATTACHMENT: Straight pin on badge, ribbon.

MARKINGS: PATENTS JULY 27, 1894 APRIL 14, 1896 July 21, 1896.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Portsmouth, New Hampshire collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEJX10 LDJJX4/11 SCJJX10/13

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The badge shows very little wear, the ribbon shows some light wear and the glass has a few light surface abrasions.
