The battalion took part in the invasion of Rome, and the subsequent push to Florence afterwards. The Christmas card has a "V"for Victory on the front and reads "V 701ST T. D. BN." and a nicely worded note on the inside from the sender; "CHRISTMAN 1943. IN FREEDOM'S FIGHT, FOLLOW HEAVEN'S LIGHT. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE GIRL WHO JUST TO KNOW, IS A MERRY CHRISTMAS. LOVE.".
