Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an extremely rare circa 1917-1918 bullion shoulder patch for the American Red Cross in Italy. The Red Cross' work in Italy, which included ambulance, communications and canteen services, along with other general relief work and the supply of medical materials, was invaluable after the country lost several hospitals in a round of offensives. The patch is in tomato red felt and is beautifully embroidered with a golden bullion lion.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1917-1918.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-9/16" in height and 3-1/2" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Wool felt embroidered in bullion and silk threads, muslin backing.

CONDITION:

8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch shows some light wear along the edges and some minor tarnishing and still has beautiful coloration.
