This is an Extremely Rare Mid 1950's LARGE Chain Stitch 85th FIS Fighter Interceptor Squadron Jacket Patch with Squared S.
Patch design was approved 7 August 195It is a VERY Mid-Century Modern type of design.
The unit flew F-51 Mustangs initially (1952 -1953), F-86D Sabre Interceptor next (1953-1957), and finally F-86L Sabre Interceptor (SAGE) until inactivated (1957-1959).
The unit was part of Air Defense Command and flew out of Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois, from 1 November 1952 - until inactivated on 1 July 1959.

SIZE:Approximately 5-5/8" in height x 5" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Fully-embroidered patch in multi-colored silk/cotton threads.
ATTACHMENT:To be sewn onto Flight Clothing.
