This is a Wonderful circa 1933, or earlier, Iowa Motor Vehicle Dept. POLICE Badge, a DIRECT PREDECESSOR Agency to the Iowa State Patrol.
From 1919 until 1933, the Iowa Motor Vehicle Department enforced state traffic laws with inspectors and agents as they were known then. In 1933, 15 Motor Vehicle Inspectors were hired to patrol Iowa's highways. Because of the POLICE title on this badge, and the ENFORCEMENT that title represents, we believe that This badge we have to offer is one of the badges worn by the 15 MVD Inspectors assigned with patrolling Iowa's roads, and It should be considered a DIRECT PREDECESSOR to the Iowa Highway Safety Patrol (later Iowa Highway Patrol, currently Iowa State Patrol), which was formed in 1935, with 50 new Patrolman.
Based on this information, we believe this badge to be extremely rare.
Circa 1933, or possibly as early as 1919.
