This is an Extremely Rare circa 1855 - 1869 Brooklyn New York Eastern District Fire Dept Helmet Shield Style Badge # 787.
The badge is in exceptional condition for its age. This is for an Active Fireman on the Department at the time. I
Brooklyn FD badges of this Style have been dug at Civil War Battle / Encampment sites, presumably worn by Fire Zouaves Troops.
I am told the records are still available to identify the original wearer of the badge.

SIZE:Approximately 1-11/16" in height x 1-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Die Stamped Brass with applied Nickel Numbers.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical kick pin with C catch.

CONDITION:8 (Excellent-): the badge shows very light wear, some of it surely from storage, although there is duty wear as well, and the badge has a lovely patina.
