Description
This is a circa 1890s Brooklyn, New York Exempt Firemen Association Eastern District (E.D.) badge. Modeled upon an earlier (1874) Western District Association, the Eastern District was incorporated in Spring 1883 with James T. Savage as President. The aim of the organization was to provide for ill and disabled firefighters as well as the immediate family members of deceased firemen. The badge is numbered 143 and shows an engine in relief at center.
VINTAGE:Circa 1890s.
SIZE:Approximately 2-5/16" in height and 1-11/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Nickel-plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical kick pin with C catch.
MARKINGS:143 on front.
