ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1910s United States Forest Service (USFS) Department of Agriculture Forest Guard badge. In 1905, the USFS was created from the former Bureau of Forestry. The badge has a great pine tree engraved between the letters US and FS. The badge is by Meyer & Wenthe of Chicago and is maker-marked on reverse. This badge also has the number 16 primitively but intentionally engraved on the reverse, as well as initials and dates scratched on back. On the right, one of the later users is "CB 1930", and on left, one set looks like "LB 1919". Others are there but are illegible.

VINTAGE: Circa 1910s.

SIZE: Approximately 1-9/16" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin on bar with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: MEYER & WENTHE CHICAGO 16 CM 1930 LB 1919 (other unreadable marks).

ITEM NOTES: This is from a police and law enforcement collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MAGEX13 L/SCGEX7/13

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The badge has some light wear only.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
