ARTIFACT:

This is an early lapel pin for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW). Originally formed in 1899 under the name American Veterans of Foreign Service. The group's current name was agreed upon in 1914.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1920s.

SIZE:

Approximately 9/16" in height and 9/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gold-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Single screw post with disc backing and one stabilization post.

MARKINGS:

AMERICAN EMB. CO. UTICA N.Y. on backing.

CONDITION:

7+ (Very Fine+): The pin shows light wear with some very small spots of oxidation and has a handsome tarnish.
