This is an Early United States Civil War 1/6 Plate Tintype of Union Soldier with Colt Dragoon Pistol in Gutta Percha Case. Littlefield, Parsons & Co. Case Patented 1857.

Manufacturers of daguerreotype cases, the patent holders for Union Cases made from a mixture of shellac and wood fibres pressed into a steel mold produced from about 1855 to 1865.
