Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa early to mid-1940s guard hat badge for the New York State Vocational Institution. Now known as Coxsackie Correctional Facility, a detention center for male youths aged 16 to 21, the Vocational Institution originally housed some older inmates who were trained for different occupations. The badge is numbered 101 and is made from wartime materials: gold-washed sterling silver with gold-fill and enamel.

VINTAGE:

Circa early to mid-1940s.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-7/16" in height and 1-3/4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gold-washed sterling silver with gold-fill and enamel.

ATTACHMENT:

Single screw post with washer, stabilization post.

MARKINGS:

101 on front.
