Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa 1955-1956 jacket patch for the initial "Operation Deep Freeze", a United States military foray into Antarctica to resupply American bases and establish a research facility. The codename now refers to the ongoing series of missions by the United States military into that region. The patch has a great golden anchor bearing a crest showing a penguin, honeybee, aircraft and ship.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1955-1956.

SIZE:

5-1/16" diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Twill embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads with mesh backing.

CONDITION:

8- (Very Fine-Excellent): Patch has some light wear and some small spots of slight discoloration.
