ARTIFACT:

Early, circa 1870's Hamburg – Amerika Line steamship souvenir pin. The exquisitely detailed pin shows two enameled flags crossed with a copper anchor bearing a brass steering wheel centered between them and with a lovely rope/chain embellishment. The Hamburg – Amerika Line was a transatlantic German shipping company established in 184The company's full name, in German, is Hamburg Amerikanische Paketfahrt Aktien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG) and it was at one time, the world's largest shipping company.
