Description
This is an early 1930s celluloid button from Portsmouth, New Hampshire for the United States Navy frigate U.S.S. Constitution. Launched in 1797, the Constitution was nicknamed "Old Ironsides" for valor during the War of 181She made three trips to the Portsmouth area, one such being for total renovation in 1930. The last time she left Portsmouth Harbor for her home port of Boston was in 1931, amid much celebration.
VINTAGE:Circa early 1930s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-7/8" in length and 1-1/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Celluloid-wrapped tin with silk ribbon, paper backing, brass pin.
ATTACHMENT:Straight pin.
