Description
This is a heavy brass plaque made from captured artillery rounds, commemorating General McAuliffe's service as Acting Commander of the 101st Airborne Division during the siege of Bastogne in the "Battle of the Bulge." The plaque shows a German handing McAuliffe a surrender ultimatum. McAuliffe's dismissive reply is shown on a scroll between the two opposing soldiers. Above the soldiers, the plaque reads "Airborne," and below, "DEC 44" and "BASTOGNE.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 5-3/8" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Brass.

MARKINGS:The back of the plaque is marked "MADE IN COUVIN BELGIUM" and "PATENT".
