Description
ARTIFACT:
This is a circa 1930 member wing pin for the Sky Roads Flying Club, for a member who had achieved he rank of Major in the club.
Skyroads was a cartoon penned by two World War I pilots that debuted in 1929, and the flying club grew out of the strip's popularity the next year.
The wing has a gold Major rank leaf hanging below it.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1930's.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-1/4" in length x 1-1/16" in height.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:
Silver and gold plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal safety-style pin, suspension loop.
MARKINGS:
JOHN F. DILLE COMPANY CHICAGO; on back of maple leaf; JOHN F. DILLE on back of wing.
