Description
This is a circa 1900 "pie plate" badge for the Chicago Police Department. The badge was made by C. H. Hanson of Chicago and has a nice clear maker's mark. It is a large, very convex six-pointed star with the City seal and brass numbers affixed to it. The City seal is very hard to still make out due to a lot of polishing, but it does shows remnants of details pointing to a pre-1905 placement of an American Indian on the left side. This is possibly the most worn example of this badge.
