Description
This is a cased German Iron Cross 1st class. The cross is maker-marked 25 for Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Hanau Graveur-, Gold-, und Silberschmiede-Innungen, and is pictured in Detlev Niemann's "Berwertungs-Katalog Deutschland" (Price Guide Germany) Volume The Iron Cross was reinstituted by Hitler, it having originally been a Prussian decoration. The Iron Cross was conferred for bravery in action and other meritorious military acts, and the 1st class version does not hang by a ribbon like the 2nd class version.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-3/4" in width; case: 2-3/4" square and " in depth.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass/tombak frame with steel center, silk and velvet lined cardboard case.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical T-style pin with C catch; case: hinged with catch lock.
MARKINGS:25 on pin.

CONDITION:8+ (Excellent): The medal has only extremely light wear and the case has one very minor flaw on its top.
