This is an early issue (circa 1914) "Bear Top" Los Angeles County, California deputy sheriff badge. The walking grizzly bear topper on the badge replaced a previously used eagle. The badge has a low number and a Chipron Stamp Company maker mark.
VINTAGE:Circa 1914.
SIZE:Approximately 2-1/8" in height and 1-5/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass, painted lettering.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical kick pin, tongue-style catch.
MARKINGS:322 on front; CHIPRON STAMP CO. 224 W. FIRST ST. LOS ANGELES and another CHIPRON mark.
