ARTIFACT:

Great, circa 1900 Mount Vernon, New York Fire Department Badge #163The center of the badge features the seal of the City of Mount Vernon which shows the town hall above a shield with the dates "1859 ??? 1892", a sunburst, and three peaks (depicting the then, highest known points of Mount Vernon, Trinity Place near Fourth Street, Vista Place at Barnes Avenue, and North 10th Street between Washington and Jefferson). The bottom of the seal, reads the state motto: "URBS JUCUNDARUM DOMUUM" ??? "A City of Happy Homes". The city seal is encircled by a belt with embossed letters reading: "CITY OF MOUNT VERNON N. Y. FIRE DEPARTMENT" and is topped with the number "1635"
