This is a beautiful World War I silver level worker badge for the United States Government nitrate plant at Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Production of nitrate began within a few weeks of the end of World War I. There were three levels for this badge: the bronze was for a general employee; the silver was for management; gold was for upper management. The badge is oval with a nicely detailed eagle and is numbered on reverse. The badge is oval with a nicely detailed eagle and is numbered on reverse.
World War I.
Approximately 2" in height and 1-1/2" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Heavy Silver-plated bronze.
Horizontal pin with tongue type 'C' catch. Tiffany style Catch is Intact but has some light damage, currently functioning more as a C catch than locking catch.
