ARTIFACT:

Beautiful 1944 United States Navy 17th Seabees hand-painted wooden plaque from the Marianas Islands. In hand-painted detail, it depicts the Seabee emblem of the "Fighting Bee" inside a red circle surrounded by rope with crossed anchors behind. The plaque is a beautifully painted sliver of tree with rings, knots, and bark edges visible and nicely finished and reads: "ROBT. W. OLDEN. CM 3/c", "17th. NCB.", "THE MARIANAS, IS. 1944".
