ARTIFACT:

Beautiful 1930's United States Coast Guard Academy 10K gold sweetheart pin. The pin is the letters, "C" and "G" intertwined and embellished with gorgeous bezel set pearls. The center depicts an eagle with wings spread and a shield below that shows the date "1876" and around it reads: "SCIENTIAE CEDIT MARE", "the sea yields to knowledge". The academy formed out of the school for the Revenue Cutter Service in Massachusetts and became the United States Coast Guard academy in 1915 when the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the Life Saving Service, the United States Coast Guard as it is known today was formed in the 1940's.
