ARTIFACT:
Beautiful 1930's - 1940's Union Steam Ship Company (USS Co.) of New Zealand enameled officer's hat badge. Also known as the Union Line, the USS Co. was once one of the largest shipping companies in the Southern Hemisphere. Founded in 1875, the collective company has owned more than 350 ships throughout its history, during the 1930's the USS Co. made daily trips to Wellington and Lyttelton and was at one time considered New Zealand's largest private sector employee. The barge, Union Bulk made its final voyage in 1990. The badge features an enameled red flag with a British flag in the center and the letters: "U S S Co" surrounding in white enamel detail. The flag is centered atop a lovely bullion embroidered wreath embellishment.

Circa 1930's - 1940's.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-1/2" in width x 1-7/8" in heght.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Bullion embroidered wool, enamel, padding, treated canvas backing
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto a visor hat.

8+ (Excellent): The badge shows minor wear, the enamel details remain intact, the bullion is bright with light patina, overall excellent condition.
