ARTIFACT: This is an authentic Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) Cambodia insignia lot. The MAAG was a designation for American military advisors sent to assist in the training of conventional armed forces of Third World countries, such as Cambodia. Colonel Edwin Van V. Sutherland, whose insignia are part of this lot, was Deputy Chief of MAAG Cambodia from 1959-1961, and a West Point graduate Class of 1936 (from West Point Register of Graduates book).

VINTAGE: Circa late 1950s-early 1960s.

SIZE: Eagles: About 1-1/2" in width by 3/4" in height; bar insignia: about 1-3/8" in width by 3/8" in height; MAAG insignia: about 1-1/4" in width by 1-1/8" in height; star insignia: about 3/4" in width by 7/8" in height; Sutherland tag: About 2-1/4" in width by 9/16" in height; small circle insignia: about 3/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Eagles: sterling; bar insignia: silk fabric over brass; MAAG insignia: stamped nickel; star insignia: gold-plated silver and silver with enamel details; Sutherland tag: silver plated brass with painted lettering; small circle insignia: gold-plated brass with enamel details.

MARKINGS: Eagle: STERLING; bar insignia: none; MAAG insignia: none; star insignia: ACID TEST; Sutherland tag: none; small circle insignia: none.
