Description
This is a World War I United States Army medal and insignia lot from the 308th Infantry, Company C (aka "Lost Battalion"). The "Lost Battalion" was surrounded in the Argonne Forest of France by German forces and steadfastly held their ground until about a third of the men were rescued by French and American allies. The lot contains a numbered World War I service medal from the State of New York, a bullion chevron patch, an enameled 77th Division AEF insignia, a 308th Infantry insignia, a cavalry insignia, an Army "US" insignia, a New York "NY" insignia and a hat badge from Bedfordshire.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:All items are various sizes: patch is 4-1/8" height and 2-3/4" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Insignia: brass, some plated and one enameled; medal: bronze with silk ribbon; patch: wool embroidered with bullion threads.
