Amazing One-of-a-Kind WWII USAAF Unofficial Photographer Wing with Pocket Patches & Sleeve Rate
PLEASE NOTE: After many years of trying to gain access into one of the top 3 US Wing Collections in the country, we are pleased to announce that we finally are going to be listing pieces from this collection. A collection in the making of almost 30 years, there are many one-of-a-kind pieces in it that will be coming into the collecting market, as well as some of the "Best of Type" pieces. Many wonderful numismatic and biographical wings, uniforms, and groupings will be coming to market for the first time in years, some for the first time ever, over the coming months. This wing is one of those offerings???
Amazing, one-of-a-kind WWII United States Army Air Forces unofficial Photographer wing. Perhaps this example was made to mimic a Technical Observer wing to slip by inspection, but clearly sitting in the hollowed out center is a handmade rendition of an aerial camera. This truly unique wing came with the USAAF Photographer Sleeve Rate and the two variations of the official United States Army Photographer pocket patches. The Rate shows an aerial camera embroidered in yellow on blue twill and the pocket patches read: "OFFICIAL U.S. ARMY PHOTOGRAPHER" in yellow embroidered detail ??? one variation embroidered on navy blue twill and the other is fully embroidered black thread on olive drab canvas.
