ARTIFACT: This is a large United States Navy submarine patch for the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine USS John Adams SSBN-620. She was sponsored by the great-great-great-granddaughter of John Quincy Adams, Abigail Adams Manny, and launched from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on January 12, 1963. She was decommissioned in March 1989. The patch is embroidered with the motto LIBERTATEM AMICITIAM RETINEBIS ET FIDEM: You will retain liberty, friendship and faith.

VINTAGE: Circa 1960s.

SIZE: Approximately 5-1/16" in height and 3-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Twill embroidered in cotton/polyester threads, mesh backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch shows some small spots of light wear.
