Description
This is a circa 1960s Japanese-made jacket patch for the United States Navy USS Volador SS-490, whose keel was laid down on June 15, 1945 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Work on the submarine came to a halt in January of the next year but resumed, with some technological upgrades, in 194She was launched May 21, 194The patch shows a sailfish hurling a couple of missiles and reads SS-490 U.S.S. VOLADOR.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Fully embroidered patch in silk/cotton threads with muslin backing.
