1959 USSR Cultural Exhibit at New York City Coliseum Enameled Souvenir Badge

This is an enameled souvenir lapel pin from the USSR Cultural (Soviet National) Exhibit that opened at the New York City Coliseum on June 30, 195The exhibition was agreed to per a 1958 treaty by the United States and Russian governments as a way to foster increased understanding between the two countries. It's debatable whether that goal was reached at this still early stage in the Cold War. The pin is enameled in red, white and blue and shows a red star sitting atop the Empire State Building.

Circa 1959.

Approximately 15/16" in height and 7/16" in width.

Nickel-plated brass, enamel.

Horizontal safety-style pin.
